God's Desert Rose - The Ministry

The Ministry
Even though the world may be a dry desert place, we need to remember that as Christians, we have an oasis in the precious Rose of Sharon that will lead us through to a better day. God's Desert Rose is in the ministry of making that fact a reality in the lives of people through the message in the music.

"We want to be an encouragement, a comfort, and a holy fire in the hearts of christian people. We also feel an awesome responsibility to sing to the lost...that is why we always feel honored to sing at festivals and parks, as well as churches and campmeetings.

We have opened for secular groups such as 'The Platters', 'Clinton Gregory', and 'Gary Lewis and the Playboys'. We have also opened for christian groups such as 'The Steeles', 'The New Hinsons', the 'Darrell Luster Trio', as well as many other top groups in southern gospel music. We will sing for Christ with the greatest fervor wherever He opens the door!

To let you know a little about the members of God's Desert Rose ...

Carolyn, who is a graduate from Averett College with a B.A. degree in Church Ministries, is married to Donald Shelton who operates the sound for the group. They both attend Westover Baptist Church in Danville, VA, and have one son, Caleb.

Her brother, Dwight Hodnett, is the recipient of a songwriting award with Billboard Magazine, and is married to Gayle, who also helps operate sound for the group, as well as assisting in handling administrative matters for the ministry. Dwight and Gayle also attend Westover Baptist Church.

We are allMinistry in agreement that our musical abilities are a gift from the Lord, that is to be used by Him as a tool to further the spread of the gospel. It is not to be taken lightly...allowed to be abused by others...or tainted by the sins of the world. We are singing for a much higher authority than a record company, a man-made committee or anyone other than our Lord Jesus. We are not in this to entertain...but we are in this for the
